Acid bath broke onto the local scene of there home in Louisiana in 1991 with there self-promoted demo "Hymns of the needle freak".Later they signed with rotten records of LA,where they got there chance to record "when the kite string pops"(Co-produced by Spike cassidy of "D.R.I.). First time you listen to these guys you find your self shocked and amazed at the same time,Musically and lyrically no other band has as much diversity..Acid bath are one of the few,if not the only, who could play with just about any genre, placing them in a single genre would be ludicrous. They combine psychedelic, goth, hardcore, progressive, grind, shreds of doom and traditional death metal to create a sound like no other. "When the kite string pops" is truly an amazing album, from start with "the blue" which starts out calmly with a sabbath-laded doom feel then burst furiously into a headbangin' frenzy..Listening to this album you feel as if you're on a roller coaster, one song you're ready to jump up and down then you find yourself calmed and tranquillized.Dax riggs voice goes from a calm soothing feel to a brutal hypnotizing death scream .The best song on this album, and it's hard to narrow it down(this album is that solid),is "scream of the butterfly" an acoustic masterpiece,The song is about a woman having an abortion, the emotional aspect of it,I don't think another song has ever sucked me in as this one does, lyrically it is absolutely astonishing, the only person I know who could be compared to dax riggs from a writing standpoint is jim morrison the poetry god himself, and he comes up short.Their's not to many albums out there that you can listen to over and over and it still seem as fresh as the first time you had heard it,"when the kite string pops" is one of the few,A classic metal album for sure. When the kite string pops" conquers what death metal has yet to encounter"
