Borknagar - Borknagar

This band is incredible, and I recommend getting any of their four albums, but this particular album is their only release which would be called black metal. This band really shows up many of its Norwegian counterparts in technical ability and songwriting, not to mention variety. The album has ten tracks, but five of them are instrumental. These instrumentals are interesting to listen to occasionally, but usually I like to just listen to the five black metal songs, tracks 1, 3, 6, 7 and 9. These songs average six minutes each so you still get value for money. All the songs have the raw sound and atmosphere of a band like Darkthrone, but with ten times the songwriting ability. The sparingly used clean vocals parts are very chilling and add another dimension to the music. I love this.
