This is the band's most diverse album. It has 14 tracks, one of which is a haunting instrumental, From Skin To Liquid, which has alot of atmosphere and feeling. Three tracks on this album are under two minutes long, and go at a blistering pace. In contrast, the songs Gallery of Suicide and Centuries of Torment have a very epic feel to them, despite the fact that apart from the instrumental track, no song is really very long. It is on this album that George "Corpsegrinder" Fischer really discovers how brutal and obnoxious his vocals can be and how they should sound. His occasional bloodcurdling screams show how much more variation he has than their former vocalist Chris Barnes. In many of these songs the band goes for a real "headbanging" sound, especially in songs like Stabbed in the Throat and Sentenced to Burn. Cannibal Corpse is one of the leading bands at unleashing blisteringly fast riffs with brutality, and at creating atmosphere with the slower riffs. This is one album that really got me into death metal.
