Covenant - Nexus Polaris

This album is unique, with lots of catchy guitar riffs mixed with piano and keyboard. A complaint could be that the keyboards don't really create much atmosphere; they just give the music a depth of sound. The same can be said of the female backing vocals. It's too slow to be considered black metal, but the vocals are very black metal. Kind of a raspy gurgle where you can understand most of the lyrics. Some of the guitaring is technical sounding, but most of it is supposed to sound catchy. The whole concept of the album seems to be "space age" metal, and the band does this very well, musically and thematically. This cd is worth hearing, but it seems a bit too long, and the concept of this music isn't quite right to be dragged out for the whole album. This is a creative band, but their music just gets a little bit boring nearing the end of the album.
