I've been trying to figure out what it is about this album that people love so much, and all I've come up with is that it's an album which is accessible to more fans of metal than Cannibal Corpse's general fanbase. I would infer that most die hard Corpse fans would see The Bleeding as a pretty average album, whereas fans of thrash, power metal etc. might see it as the only Corpse album they could get into because it's significantly slower than their other material, and the song structures aren't as complex. The way I see it, the band took a step backwards in releasing this cd. Chris Barnes's vocals are lacklustre, and I don't know why he's decided to change after Butchered At Birth. Still having said all this, many of the riffs are very catchy, and can be slowly hypnotic in a way resembling Morbid Angel at times. This album is simply not typical of Cannibal Corpse, except for a few blasty, fast parts. It's worth checking out for all metalheads, but don't be expecting something really brutal.
Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding 7.5/10
