Massive keyboard swathes, huge chaotic guitars, Gene Hoglan's distinctive drumbeats, and what sounds like a million vocal tracks, all with different effects on them, typify this release. The project is well-named... from the opener "Truth" to the poppy-yet-orchestral "Christeen" (apparently dedicated to a relative of Devin's wife, Tracy), the sub-westside musical attentions of "Bad Devil" (complete with seemingly random "beatnik moment" in around the three minute mark), to the all out insanity of "Ants" ("Satan's Ice Cream Truck Pt. II", perhaps?), this album is absolutely gorgeous, a true work of art, and, above all, infinite and unlimited in musical scope.Nothing seems to be off-limits for Devin: from doubling the riff on the horns in "Bad Devil", to the anime-styled (the only way I can describe it! It really sounds like a Japanese cartoon!) backing vocals in "Noisy Pinkbubbles", to the church organ underneath the full-on rock riff in "War".... And it all fucking works!! Standouts are the aforementioned "Christeen", for its singable nature and incredible catchiness (likely partly due to Ginger Wildheart's co-writing ability); "Bad Devil", for its sheer funkiness and sense of malevolent fun; and "Soul Driven" for Devin's opening vocal tour-de-force, but this is akin to picking the best diamonds from the Queen's jewels... "best" is only a relative term, as any song on this album demolishes anything put out by any other artist going; not, as S.Y.L. does, through pissing all over it, flipping it off, and running straight through it, but by creating pure, uplifting, and emminently enjoyable art. Some may dismiss this as commercial for its immediacy, some may even scream sell out for its lack of overt aggression, but those closed-minded few simply leave more for the rest of us to enjoy.I've said enough.Buy the fucking album. You'll be doing yourself a favour.
