Deicide - Legion

Wow, an absolute fucking classic! Unfortunately this is another Roadrunner band which went downhill. Glenn Benton does not use vocal enhancers for this, as he states emphatically on the cover booklet, and the vocals definitely sound more harsh, and possibly more varied because they're the real thing. The opening track, Satan Spawn, The Caco-Daemon, absolutely blows me away with its regimented brutality, and feel of organised chaos, which I feel that this band lost after this release. (which was in 1992) The songs following are just as brutal, but lose a bit of character and definition from each other. Still, this is made up for by the sheer quality. I think I prefer quality and little song definition, to really defined songs that are also really simple and repetitive. This album is only 29 minutes, but my senses are pulverised all the way through. I love the Deicide guitar sound; really precise and sharp. They always have good production, even if their albums after this one are quite simplistic. This album is a must-have based on its importance to the development of death metal.
