Deceased - Supernatural Addiction

An album with "classic" written all over it. Using the basic foundations of "Fearless Undead Machines", King Fowley and crew stripped-down and refined the style, and made a fuckin' masterpiece with Supernatural Addiction. Amidst the crop of brutal death bands emerging from the scene, comes an album so in vein with the old school it's original. Eight horror stories told in a death metal context, and King Fowley is the narrator. There are no topics of gore here, only psychological fright. Some are based from "The Twilight Zone", The Blair Witch project, the book, "A Tell-Tale Head", amongst others. The songs are truly captivating, and the music truly represent the storyline. The first thing that struck me is the awesome production. Then the awesome riffs and leads of the Adams/Smith guitar tandem. The riffs and licks are from the NWOBHM school of melody. Fowley's vocals have changed as well. His voice is still gruff but they're intelligible now.

My favorite is "A Very Familiar Stranger", with the perfect interaction between the riffs and the story. When the story speeds up, the tempo picks up as well. Close second is "The Doll with the Hideous Spirit", a story about this Zuni doll that kills everyone in its path. I've seen the film on which this was based so I really felt the story. Once again, perfect harmony between the theme and music. The music is very melodic, fast and always changing, except for last song "Elly's Dementia". Everything is in place and compliments the stories. I even hear a little Gothenburg influence here and there. An album I liked instantly and liking it more everytime I listen to it. I could firmly say that Deceased is at its prime right now and that we are destined to hear more excellent stuff from them in the future.
