Godflesh - Merciless EP

Godflesh is an industrial rock/metal duo by the names of JK Broadrick, and GC Green. This EP has four tracks: 1."merciless", 2."blind", 3."unworthy", and 4."flowers". The first song, "merciless", is definitely not the highlight of this cd. As far as industrial goes, the guitars are decent, but definitely lacking in the creativity and diversity department. The vocals are severely lacking. I personally don't expect a whole lot when listening to industrial vocals though. "Merciless" is a very slow song, however, which makes up for the guitars and droning vocals.

"Blind" is much more industrial-sounding than the previous track, and has more noticable electronic sounds in the song. The vocals in this song are better. Not as seemingly forced through cupped hands to get a echoed/muffled effect as in the title track. There isn't as much emphasis on guitars and again, the slow speed of this song also adds to the effectiveness of the music. "Unworthy", the third track, sounds similar to the previous. Not a whole lot to say about it. Much more straight-up industrial sounding than the title track, once again. "Flowers" is probably the least boring track on the whole cd. I found after listening to this cd a few times and hearing this song, that Godflesh would be better off just sticking to straight-up industrial. There are some background vocals on this song, which don't help it out all that much.

Overall, if you are an extreme fan of industrial, I would say to get this EP if you can find it cheap and/or used. The whole album is very slow and very boring, and is definitely good for falling asleep to. It's definitely relaxing. All songs are 6 or 7 minutes apiece, which I felt was a downfall. If they had come up with some real creativity for this, those extra 3 minutes per track would be well worth listening to. The whole cd is in general, very slow and droning, and as said before, only get it if you really like industrial and you can find it cheap or used. It's not a bad time filler, when you can't think of anything else you would like to listen to.
