Immolation - Dawn Of Possession

This music is too boring for me to listen to very often, but when I do listen, I can appreciate the influence that parts of this album had on many metal bands of today. Some of the riffing here is creative, but the songs are just too lacklustre. I see alot of technical ability in what this band does, and think if they could be a bit more creative and have more crushing production, incorporating atmosphere into their music, they could be very good. When the band uses blast beats, they don't seem to lift the guitar very much, or do much in general for the songs. I also dislike the vocals. They're difficult to appreciate as being deep and brutal. They seem to just hover above the music, not displaying much of a range at all. One thing I'll say in defense of this band, is that the guitar solos used on this album do alot for the songs, interacting well with the rhythm guitar and adding another dimension to the music.
