Take all the bastardized and clichéd aspects of extreme metal, stir them together, syphon out any type of songwriting talent & musical ingenuity that may be left floating in the brew, let sit on the counter overnight and voila! You've just concocted a pasty, mushy, bland bowl of In Aeternum. Yes, folks, this is the type of band that follows every rule for how to play, dress and act METUHL, as prescribed in the book of ManOwaR, but really have nothing to show for it. In Aeternum's music is thoughtless, shallow and boring. Everything about them just SCREAMS "generic", from the grating rasps of vocalist David Larsson (which are highly derivative of those of AngelCorpse frontman Pete Helmkamp) to the limberger-tinged promotional ads for this album. The Pestilent Plague is the type of cd that only a collecter should own. Totally predictable, formulaic and monotonous in its endless barrage of screams/power chords/blastbeats and lacking any sort of plausible song structure or personality at any point in the span of te 40+ minutes it goes on for. In layman's terms: EVERY FUCKING SONG SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE ONES BEFORE AND AFTER IT! I was told, prior to receiving this album, that In Aeternum was a blatant Dissection clone... Well, considering the fact that Dissection is my favorite band ever, I'd readily say that In Aeternum would be INFINITELY better if they WERE in fact a Dissection clone. Perhaps then they would be able to write some decent songs. Stay away from this album unless you already own every death/black metal hybrid cd ever pressed and have played them all to the grave... and even then, approach with caution. BLECH!!! I think I'll go listen to Darkane to was the awful taste of this album out of my palate.
