Metal Church - Blessing In Disguise
This offering from Metal Church is something no
metalhead should pass up. Their 3rd album as well as
the first with Mike Howe is an underrated masterpiece.
MC amalgamates the power metal melodies of Iron Maiden
with the thrashy razor's edge of Testament. When I put
this into my stereo, I was so blown away that the
first listen was for the entire 54 minutes of this
album. The diversity is so great, I have to review
each track individually
Fake Healer: The album opens with a dramatic(with an
oddly symphonic feel)tirade against doctors who care
more about the almighty dollar than their patients.
Great sing along chorus to boot
Rest In Pieces: This nightmarish epic, written
free-form, concerns the first voyage of the
Titanic(you know what happens at the end).
Of Unsound Mind: One of the few less-than-5-minute
songs on the CD. Concerns a man who goes insane and
isolates himself from society.
Anthems To The Estranged: File this under virtuosity
to the extreme. A 9:31 epic that goes from folky
acoustic playing to powerful metal riffs. The lyrics
are a tribute to those who are forced into a nomadic
lifestyle and have to deal with being away from their
loved ones.
Badlands: A number about living in the frontier. The
atmosphere is very desolate, one gets the feeling of
being in the desert during sundown.
The Spell Can't Be Broken: This bit is about, you
guessed it, the mysterious nature of witchcraft.
It's A Secret: An early-Maiden style instrumental
Cannot Tell A Lie: Imagine if someone who cared about
the country's problems ran for President, this would
be the PERFECT campaign song.
The Powers That Be: The finale on this album is
concerning an issue amongst the metalhead community,
people(esp. adults) who don't understand metal music.
If you are interested, buy this album and see what
many metalloids have been missing.
