I really love the diversity that this album has. It must go down as a classic. Such a muddy sound and atmosphere, utilised to perfection in the hauntingly hateful sounding, track 3, World of Shit. (The Promised Land) The first song, Rapture, is one of the more brutal songs that Morbid Angel has done, and on this album overall, the vocalist Dave Vincent manages his most obnoxious sounding vocals to date. Track 7, Angel of Disease, is what I'd call an epic, in death metal terms, so already you must be able to see that this album has lots of variety, with Trey Azagthoth furthering the progression of the songs through some magical guitar soloing. Track 10, God of Emptiness, seems like one of the band's more overrated songs, but I can appreciate that it shows more diversity yet, with the clean vocals used in many parts of this song. If you want to see what Morbid Angel is all about, you need to pick up this album. The drumming is killer as usual with Pete Sandoval's precise brutality. There are times where this album has its lulls, but overall this really is worth picking up.
