Memento Mori - Songs For The Apocalypse Vol. 4

Memento Mori checks in with Songs For The Apocalypse Vol. 4, its fourth and possibly best album yet.The Messiah Marcolin/Mike Wead(in Mercyful Fate also) vocal/guitar chemistry has never sounded better. And a much more engaging rhythm section gives the album a solidity the other Memento Mori albums have lacked.Musically, the album offers a look at the finer points of the band's musicianship. As mentioned, the rhythm section enjoys a more rugged terrain than on earlier albums, dragging a syncopated chug underneath most of the material. Not a shred of doom is lost. The emphasis on the rhythn section follows from the experimentations of the last (and most disappointing) album La Danse Macabre.Only here its much better and is a worthy background for Mike Wead's lead/melody playing. The man shows total control over length, dynamics, and articulation. This album mark Marcolin's return to the band after a one album vacation. Its leave Kristian Andren, a better vocalist, out of a job. There is no question that Messiah is the right frontman for Memento Mori. The production on this album is WAY better than the previous albums. To all the old fans: This is a very good album. To all the new fans:Memento Mori is a good doom metal band, recommended to fans of everything from King Diamond to My Dying Bride.
