Pantera - Official Live: 101 Proof

As with most live albums, the production is total shit.Well, not exactly...actually, except for a very odd drum sound (I can't quite describe it...it's not tinny, it's not too bassy, it just sounds wrong somehow), the band have a pretty good auditory quality going on...Phil's voice is right on top of it all, every screech and squeal clear; Dime's riffs and widdly guitar carry well; Rex's bass is a bit muted, but who gives a fuck about bass anyway.Produced by Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell.Well, that explains that ...never let drunken Texans near a mixing board...NEXT!

Ignoring the requisite "new tracks so we aren't completely ripping off the fans" (I Can't Hide isn't bad, though a bit short and simplistic) the tracklisting could be better...The only real problem, though, is that the spread of tracks, though mostly taken from the last three Pantera studio albums --The Great Southern Trendkill, Far Beyond Driven, Vulgar Display Of Power -- don't actually sound like they come from different albums."Walk" and "War Nerve", "Becoming" and "Suicide Note Pt. 2"...they could've come from the same damn album.

In short, as with all live albums, if ya love the band, you'll love this.If you hate the band, this will not change your mind.Personally, I kinda like Pantera, though I could name five or six other bands off the top of my head I like far better.
