A very one dimensional, pseudo death metal album with some crushing mosh parts. I don't know much about this band's earlier material, except that it was very influencial to the death metal genre, so hearing this album came as a surprise to me, until I read the Roadrunner logo on the cd. Every decent metal band on Roadrunner has seemed to go down the proverbial poopshoot. Max Cavelera left the band before this release, which was probably a good thing, because the album, Roots, from two years earlier was an absolute joke. The two replacement vocalists more than make up for Max's absence. I can be impressed with how the trial influences are incorporated into the music, regardless of how simple the music is and how many very generic, boring parts this album has.
