This album has been out for a while, but I just recently got hold of it. It didn't impress me much at first, but it really grew on me over the weeks. So I thought it deserved a review. Over the years, Sentenced's music has evolved from death metal to hard rock, or something like that. That 'rock' element is most prominent in the hard rock-ish riffs and in the structures of the songs, which have your basic verse-bridge-'sing-along' chorus shapes. This makes most of the songs memorable, but also a bit predictable. A lot of effort has gone into the songs, though, with multi-layered guitar parts, nice intros and clever modulations. Newbie vocalist Ville Laihiala does a pretty good job, but he doesn't quite make the standard of a vocalist of a million selling rock act. That however, along with the slightly muddy production, is possibly the only reason that Sentenced aren't that million selling rock act!
