Zombie Attack is the first album in a long line of fun filled extravaganzas by this German 5 piece outfit, released in 1986. Debuting when German Thrash Metal was at its finest, and alongside others such as Kreator,Destruction,Rage,Grave Digger and Running Wild,Tankard never fully reached the success of their peers due to their tongue-in-cheek approach to writing lyrics, which overfilleth thine ears with tales of drunkeness and horror sentiments. They made up for this deficiency(?) with stellar muscianship and a great rounded out,yet rough around the edges, production courtesy of Harris Johns. Songs such as "Empty Tankard","Chains" and the title track are fueled as much by their love for alcohol as is their love for playing thrash metal. In this department they are no slouches,as they prove without a doubt that they can thrash with the best of 'em. This album, and Tankard in general, are not meant to be taken seriously. To do so,you would be missing their point...drink beer, watch gore, listen and/or play thrash metal and most importantly...have fun doing it. If you adopt and accept this(and their) attitude, you will thoroughly enjoy them. To do otherwise, you will miss the point and find them a joke.(Which they are,but in a fun way.) Rating: 9/10
